Admissions Officer at U.S. Coast Guard Academy

About Matthias Wholley

A decorated Lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard, Matthias Wholley began his tenure of service after completing his Bachelor of Science in Government in 2002 at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Embarking on his first tour of duty aboard the Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) Campbell, Lieutenant Wholley demonstrated considerable aptitude as a Deck Watch Officer and First Lieutenant. The purpose of the tour was to re-port the Campbell from its original home port in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to its new home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Supervising safety operations on deck and navigating the ship’s course, Matthias Wholley also functioned as a key team member for a number of fisheries and law enforcement boarding operations that took place under his watch.

Eager to pursue new career challenges, Matthias Wholley transferred to Boston’s First Coast Guard District office in 2004, taking on additional responsibilities in his appointment as Patrol Boat Manager and Command Center Duty Officer. Promoted to Operations Officer of the CGC Spencer three year later, Lieutenant Wholley continued to lead patrols of fisheries, law enforcement, drug, and migrant interdiction with considerable capability, and was eventually placed in command of CGC Anacapa in 2009. Shortly after stepping into this position, Matthias Wholley and his crew sailed the Anacapa 7,500 nautical miles from the Coast Guard Yards in Baltimore to the ship’s remote homeport in Petersburg, Alaska.

Matthias Wholley’s final tour brought him to the United States Coast Guard Academy Admissions Office in July 2011. He currently resides in Waterford, Connecticut, with his wife Kasia and their daughter Izabella, and enjoys hiking, camping, mountain biking, kayaking, and backpacking in his leisure time.
